May 7, 2011
On Saturday May 7, 2011, the Catholic Youth Organization of Immaculate Conception in Tuckahoe, New York supported Swazi Legacy in their annual pasta dinner. Every year, the CYO holds a pasta dinner and chooses one charity to donate all the profits towards. This year, Swazi Legacy was honored to be the one charity that the CYO chooses to support at their annual dinner.
As I walked into the cafeteria where the dinner had taken placed, I immediately saw a sea of blue shirts, which were worn by all the members of the CYO. It was heart-warming to see this organization help Swazi Legacy. I had walked into an atmosphere of generosity as the CYO members wanted to make sure that everyone there was comfortable and having a good time.
The members of the CYO were tremendously committed to this cause. One member, Nick DeSantis, stated that he was there since 2 pm for a dinner that was scheduled for 6:30 - and he wasn’t even the first one to arrive! The CYO’s work paid off with a night that was full of great food, great entertainment, and great people.
There was not one moment in which anyone was bored. Part of the night was packed with compelling entertainment which included members of the CYO dancing. From the local Eastchester High School, Marc and David Cartolano, members of the CYO, displayed their award-winning dance with their two partners Elana Tee and Koko Tetsuka. After the quartet, CYO members, Liam Sullivan and Linda Cartolano also showed their award-winning dance to match the gripping ballet of their predecessor. Both groups put on a show and the audience enthusiastically responded to their performance.
As the night went on, Swazi Legacy member Patrick Murtagh presented a speech about the goal and mission of our organization. The audience was roused and subdued to the flow and emotional content of Mr. Murtagh’s speech. Afterwards, the CYO proceeded in raffling off their own members who would perform jobs that included tutoring, cleaning houses, and yard work. A very humorous moment yet the highest bid reached up to $200!
The dinner was an extraordinary success as the night was filled with many stimulating components. As a member of Swazi Legacy, I express gratitude towards the CYO of Immaculate Conception for their organization displays the hard work and compassion that many individuals should emulate. Through their success, Swazi Legacy can continue to prosper and expand as they try to fight for their cause. I hope that the CYO continues their good deeds which are recognized by many. It was a truly enjoyable dinner and I and the rest of Swazi Legacy express a gracious thank you.
